intersections -- where middle school students learn life skills

At a Glance

  • Audience: Middle School Students
  • Goal: Addresses communication, peer relations, conflict management and other life skills
  • Six-Week Curriculum Fee: $630

Middle school students encounter challenging new experiences during these days of their changing lives; these “intersections” might require guidance and direction so students learn necessary life skills. This program can be an important part of comprehensive efforts to keep schools safe.

The six one-hour interactive sessions allow students to develop competencies in:

  • Communication skills with peers and adults
  • Peer relations
  • Self-observation
  • Personal vision development
  • Time management and goal-setting
  • Self-awareness, self-talk and action planning
  • Communication styles and conflict management
  • Non-verbal communication

Show-Me Standards and MAP Skills addressed:

  • Evaluate factors that influence relationships and their impact on self and others
  • Evaluate the importance of effective communication and listening skills in building and maintaining friendships
  • Discuss problems with a trusted adult when encountering confusing or difficult situations
  • Solve problems related to managing feelings experience during stress, disappointment, separation or loss
  • Recognize diversity
  • Recognize the perspectives of others
