monthly nutrition ideas for kids
January -- Is holiday candy weighing down
your new year? Try freezing and saving it for a
special treat.
February -- Keep active during the cold
winter months. Jump rope, dance to your favorite
music or play a game of indoor hide-and-seek.
March -- Try new foods! Help prepare meals,
and try at least one bite of a new food.
April -- Bring the colors of spring to the
table; eat a variety of colors when choosing
fruits and vegetables.
May -- Take advantage of warmer weather. Get
outdoors and enjoy 30 minutes of physical
activity each day.
June -- Make healthy eating a family affair
this summer. Get the entire family to log the
number of fruits and vegetables they’ve eaten
each day. Remember, the goal is between five and
nine.
July -- Balance your food choices -- don’t
eat too much of any one thing.
August -- Being active is much more fun with
friends and family. Take advantage of physical
activities you enjoy doing together.
September -- Start the school year off right
-- with breakfast!
October -- Applaud parents who give pencils,
stickers or other nonfood items to the
neighborhood ghosts and goblins.
November -- This holiday season, focus on
what you are going to do instead of what you are
going to eat at family gatherings.
December -- Share the holiday spirit by
sharing your food -- share leftovers with an
elderly neighbor.
